From January to August 1970, between school and university, I lived with a family at a house called Merze not far from the town of Cluny in eastern France (I was trying to teach English to the three young children). Most of the sketches I did were in pencil or biro, but towards the end of my stay I bought a fine nib pen and some black indian ink so that I could create a wash over an ink sketch.
